Beecroft Out Of School Hours

National Quality Framework

BOOSH operates under the National Quality Standard and the My Time Our Place learning framework (NQF). The National Quality Standard (NQS) is a key aspect of the NQF and sets a high, national benchmark for early childhood education and care, and outside school hours care services in Australia.

It gives services and families a better understanding of a quality service, helping families to make informed decisions about the services providing education and care to their child. The NQS brings together the 7 key quality areas that are important to outcomes for children.

  1. Educational program and practice
  2. Children’s health and safety
  3. Physical Environment
  4. Staffing arrangements
  5. Relationships with children
  6. Collaborative partnership with families and communities
  7. Governance and leadership

The BOOSH Centre has been rated as Exceeding National Quality Standard.

My time, our place: Framework for School Aged Care in Australia, has been developed to assist educators to provide children with opportunities to enrich their well-being, maximise their potential and develop a foundation for future success in life. Our programming reflects that secure trusting relationships are formed and children’s voices are heard and reflected in our programme. Each child’s knowledge is valued and can be used as a tool for enhancing the learning experiences of children in a secure leisure play base environment.

Educators, guided by the Framework, will reinforce in their daily practice the principles laid out in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (the Convention). The Convention states that all children have the right to relax and play, and to join in a wide range of cultural, artistic and other recreational activities. The Convention also recognises children’s rights to be active participants in all matters affecting their lives and respects their family, cultural and other identities and languages.

The Framework acknowledges the importance of play and leisure in children’s learning and development and that their learning is not limited to any particular time or place. Developing life skills and a sense of enjoyment are emphasised. The Framework recognises the importance of social and emotional development and communication in learning through play and leisure and it forms the foundation for ensuring that children in all school age care settings engage in quality experiences for rich learning, personal development and citizenship opportunities
